On the 8th of June 2021 Stanley Gibbons threw its hat into the ring during an auction at Sotheby's New York and entered a bidding war for this rarest of philatelic treasures. It was an intense bidding process but when the dust settled the Stanley Gibbons management team of Graham Shircore, Our previous CEO, and Victoria Lajer, MD, emerged victorious, with the hammer dropping on a final bid of $8.3million.

We intend to put the stamp on free public display at different intervals throughout the year so that more people can enjoy this unique piece and discover its fascinating story.
We also worked with a company called Showpiece to offer fractionalised ownership of the stamp. This was a world first for a philatelic item and has allowed more people to become a part of this stamp's history.
