Officials

Introduced in 1882, these 'Official' stamps are overprinted with the name of a Government Department and, in most, cases, the word "Official", they were for the use of essentially autonomous Government Departments. They were not available to purchase by the public, with the exception of a short period directly from Somerset House. Forged overprints are common.
