1918 Naval Mail. Very fine cover from a Royal Marine Submarine Miner stationed at Scapa flow. Prepaid with a 1d scarlet tied by a F.P.O.a. Krag machine cancel of Scapa flow dated FE.9.1918 with a violet "CENSORED" handstamp (Gould 4a 7) at left, countersigned by the unit censoring officer Lt. H. Tully.
The RMSM were formed in February 1915, their primary role was the defence of Scapa Flow and Cromarty through the use of an observed electronically detonated mine field. The unit was manned by men of pensionable age or those wounded in action and was demobilised at the end of the war. Very unusual and scarce, offered with a PPC of a submarine mine.
