CEYLON 1886 SG196 Colour Trial

Stock Code: P212014425

1886 (Feb) 15c colour trials x2, with keyplate in dull mauve, and duty respectively in brown-purple and blue-green, each line perf 14 on unwmkd paper. Latter with trimmed perfs at top (and horizontal crease), still a most attractive and interesting pair, not previously seen by us and very rare, any PERFORATED colour trial of Ceylon being highly unusual. [De La Rue had first raised the possibility of bicolour printing for Ceylon stamps in May 1885, but the suggestion was not taken up until 1893, with SG 245 and 247.]
