No Longer Available - CEYLON 1885 SG174 Mint

Stock Code: P212013811

1885 10c on 64c red-brown, type 22 local surcharge, well-centred upper right corner BLOCK OF TWENTY-FIVE with plate number "1", from pos. 8-12 of the setting, large part o.g. (nine stamps in rows 1 and 4 unmounted). Some imperfections (pencil annotations in top margin, small piece of corner margin missing, light creasing affecting rows 1 and 5, reinforced separation between rows 2 and 3), still fine appearance with fresh colour. A unique and spectacular positional multiple, the largest extant, and one of the most important surviving pieces from the entire 1885 local surcharge issue. Shows numerous letter flaws, and especially desirable from these positions, pos. 11 being the most distinctive of the 12 "types", with immediately recognisable wide space beween "E" and "N" in "TEN". Ex Baron de Worms (Harmer 20/6/1938, lot 794 - realised £34), and apparently not seen on the market for 83 years.
