CEYLON 1884 SG152 Colour Trial

Stock Code: P212014427

1884 (Nov) 24c colour trials x6, each imperforate on unwmkd paper, large part o.g. to o.g. The colours of five (lilac, orange-yellow, slate, olive-green and drab) match those selected for the 1885 De La Rue surcharge issue (SG 187, 189/92), indicating a close connexion, while the sixth in carmine (-lake) seems to be related to the suggestion by De La Rue (see Easton p, 401) that the new 15c on 16c should be in that colour. Couple of trivial blemishes mentioned for accuracy, nevertheless a highly attractive and important group of great rarity. [These trials seem to have been produced to enable colour selection for the new values and designs that would be required after the changes in postal rates on 1 Jan 1885, and feature on a DLR colour scheme dated 21 Jan 1885 - see "The De La Rue Collection" pp. 2520-3.]
