1884(-96) "STAMP DUTY" £8, die proof in black on unwmkd wove (34x65mm). Slight horizontal crease in lower surround but a rare and beautiful item, one of only five die proofs known for this value, all of which are in different states, this example showing the completed crown but lacking the "J L" inscription. [N.B. Although this proof, made c.1879, is clearly typographed, the issued stamps were printed by lithography.]
