1859 (MY 16) cover from Emerald Hill to Devon, endorsed "Per R.M.S. Columbian", franked at 6d rate by 1858 "Emblems" 2d brown-lilac on horizontally laid paper, rouletted, horizontal strip of 3, tied by two very fine "148" numerals. Backstamped at Emerald Hill, Melbourne (MY 16), Newton-Abbot (AU 6) and Ashburton (AU 7). Filing crease affecting stamps but fresh and attractive. Neatly mounted on exhibition page. [N.B. Emerald Hill was one of the cradles of cricket in Australia. The ground hosted the second ever first-class match to be played in Australia when Victoria played Tasmania in March 1852.]
