SEYCHELLES 1897 SG29s, 33/6s Specimen QV 6c, 75c, 1r50, 2r25 with Ultramar handstamp

Stock Code: P212014084

1897-1900 6c, 75c, 1r50, 2r25, opt 'SPECIMEN' (type D12), each in a vertical strip of 5 (severed into pairs and strips of 3) as despatched from Berne, with additional 'ULTRAMAR' H/S in blue, applied in Lisbon for distribution to Portuguese Colonies, o.g. (pairs) or unmounted o.g. (strips). The 6c strip with traces of toning, still very fine, the 75c, 1r50 and 2r25 all matching from pos. 33/59 of the pane, and showing the constant variety Broken 'M' (pos. 41 of the setting) on the lower stamp of the vertical pairs, and in superb condition. Only 35 examples of each value ever received the 'ULTRAMAR' H/S, and the combination of of Broken 'M' and 'ULTRAMAR' is always by definition unique. A wonderful group for the connoisseur. [N.B. It is unlikely that the other values of the set, distributed on different occasions, could have survived in this form.]
