Nyasaland SG 54b mint 1898 (11 Mar) 1d vermilion and grey-blue 'Cheque stamp) error of CENTRE INVERTED

Stock Code: P11200404

1898 (11 Mar) 1d vermillion and grey-blue 'Cheque stamp', imperforate from top row, setting I pos. 2, without initials and error CENTRE INVERTED, fresh unused. Very minor hinge thinning, still fine for this and a highly desirable example of this great British Empire error. From an original row of 15 reported in 1901, just 12 examples now remain in private hands (plus the pair now in the Royal Collection and the single in the Mosely Collection at the British Library). Spectacular and very rare. Ex de Robeck and illustrated in his 1982 monograph (pl.4.9). BPA cert (2007). (cat £27,000)
