1881 (AP 12) front to Nadur, Gozo, Sapiano correspondence (addressed to Giorgina Sapiano, mistress of the primary school), endorsed "Servizio", franked at lower left by 1863-81 ½d "yellow", wmk CC, perf 14, 23rd printing, tied by superb crisp code "B" duplex (with upright "A25" - introduced 1/1/1881). The front with crease (and small tear) at top and addressee partly deleted (but still fully legible), nevertheless an attractive item, with an exceptional strike of the duplex. Ex R.C.B. Smith (no. 77930 - Spink 9/12/2009, lot 237, part). [The 23rd printing is traditionally classified as "bright orange-yellow" (SG 12), but in our experience there was considerable variation in shade].
