1878 (MAY 1) soldier's mourning cover from 'Corpl A.B. Bourden, 2nd Battn, 9th Regt' at Peshawar to Peckham, England, and endorsed 'via Southampton'. Duly countersigned and franked at concessionary rate by 1865 wmkd 8p purple (corner fault), tied by 'PESHAWAR / L-8' duplex with Bombay (5 AU) and London (6 SP) backstamps. Slight soiling and minor edge tears at top, still neat and above average. Uncommon provisional usage of the previous 8p stamp to prepay the increased 9p rate (effective April 1874).
