INDIA 1870 SGT5 (var) Revenue Court Fee opt on 2a maroon Telegraphs

Stock Code: P212011512

Court Fee: 1870-72 Telegraphs 2a maroon (first wmk), overprinted 'COURT FEES.' in red, BLOCK OF FOUR with two punch cancellations in each stamp as usual. A fine and rare multiple of this elusive provisional revenue. [N.B. India Court Fees were introduced in 1870 without dedicated revenue stamps available. A wide range of stamps were thus overprinted locally in Bombay and Calcutta on an 'ad hoc' basis until the arrival of the dedicated 'Court Fee' issue of 1872]
