INDIA 1869 SGT5, 32 Telegraph

Stock Code: P201001514

Telegraph. 1869-78 2a maroon, first wmk (T19), and 1882 1a green, second wmk (T25), each with typeset seriffed "SPECIMEN." opt (Samuel type "T10", with stop), fresh part o.g. An attractive and extremely interesting pair, differing from Samuel's listing, who regarded this as a handstamp, and only recorded it struck three times on each stamp of a set (once horizontally, as here, and twice vertically), failing to notice that the two vertical opts measure 18½mm, but the similar horizontal opt only 17¾mm. The different wmks of this pair suggest application c.1882. [Remarkably these are the only seriffed opts WITH STOP recorded by Samuel on any Indian telegraph stamps, with none at all listed on postage stamps.]
