I.F.S. BUNDI 1920 SG21/4, 38/46 Forgery

Stock Code: P190010677

1920 (Sep) type F1 FORGERIES of the 1914-41 "Sacred Cows" issue, an amazing series of 11 values (½a to 2r) plus an extra 1a, comprising tablets "A" 2½a, 3a, 6a, and tablets "C" ½a, 1a (x2), 2a, 4a, 10a, 12a, 1r, 2r, all in rejoined COMPLETE SHEETS (mostly blocks of three (pos. 2-4) with pos. 1 hinged in place, except 4a value with pos. 2 replaced and the 1r a pair and two singles), "unused". Some with toning as a result of deterioration of the thin paper, typical roulette separation, and odd creases, but generally good to fine condition with several better. No corresponding forgeries of the ¼a and 8a values (or the 4r and 5r) have ever been reported, so this is the full set apart from the 3r value. An extraordinary and unrepeatable series, made the more fascinating and remarkable by the presence of GENUINE (!) type O1 (native) or O2 (Small British - 1a x1, 1r, 2r only) overprints on the REVERSES of each stamp (except 3a value with type O2 on face, and 4a without any opt). [These forgeries are known to have been distributed as new issues, supplied by the Bundi post office, apparently through the action of dishonest officials, but sheets are now virtually unobtainable. Benns (see pp. 44-47) had never seen one, and we have handled very few (invariably without overprints, and usually just the ½a, 1a and 2a values) in the 33 years since his study was published, apart from an (unoverprinted) set to 12a (with pairs only of the 1r to 3r) which we sold in 2006.]
