1885 2d "Jubilee" Essay. Very fine hand painted example in blue-green & scarlet with details of the design highlighted in Chinese white, executed on a piece of white card (79 x 113mm) Endorsed "Violet / Green duty" the "Violet" & "Green" has been pencilled through and replaced with "Purple" & "Red" respectively, with "Ornaments" in manuscript pointing to the Royal Coat of Arms and "4 Annas" at foot, from a group of the rejected designs which were later considered for a proposed India issue in 1891. Unique.
