Very rare group of twelve composite essays using various printed head, background and frame combinations each with detailing added by hand and affixed to a piece of paper (260 x 111mm). Produced by Perkins Bacon for the 1880 tender in which they were unsuccessful, the contract being awarded to DLR. A very rare ensemble of preliminary essays which are the only recorded examples in private hands.
