1858 1d Rose-red Pl.52. (Perf 16). Very fine mourning envelope sent from Onich to Edinburgh bearing a 1d rose-red Pl.52. (SG 36) lettered BC, neatly tied by an "ONICH ONICH" Scots local cancellation (Type IV). Backstamped by a Bonaw transit cds for JU.17.1858, and an Edinburgh arrival cds for the following day. It is assumed that the shorter named villages associated with the Type IV cancellations were duplicated to better cancel multiples of the 1d adhesives that were predominantly used at the smaller Scottish offices. Alcock scarcity rating F. Ex. "Claymore".
