1855 1d Red-brown Pl.17 & 2d Blue Pl.4 (SG29var & SG23). Fine used examples prepaying the 3d per ¼oz rate from the Crimea to England via Marseille, all tied on arrival in London by the very scarce "49-49-49" triple numeral. British Army Post Office cds in blue on reverse for MR.29.1856 with London and Cheltenham receiving cds's for AP.10.1856. An attractive Crimea cover from the Kemp correspondence, Lieut. William Kemp of the 18th "Royal Irish" regiment was recorded as severely wounded at the 1st attack on the Great Redan at the siege of Sevastopol, June 18th 1855.
