GB 1853 SG8 Cover - Ryde (third type) Skeleton handstamp

1853 Isle of Wight. Fine entire prepaid by a four margin 1d red-brown (creased) tied by a Cardiff '162' numeral. Mis-addressed to Rye, Isle of Wight instead of Rye, Sussex, delivered to Ryde, Isle of Wight then redirected via London to Rye. The reverse showing a superb strike of the scarce Ryde third type skeleton handstamp (IW102, Mackay 196) for OC.10.1853 in the usual red-brown ink with London and Rye arrival cds's for the following day. The usual double-arc datestamp was undergoing repair in October 1853 which in turn led to the brief use of this third type skeleton handstamp. Ex Goodman.
