Fine pair of matched covers sent from Fordyce to Banff, the first envelope bearing an 1841 1d red-brown (SG 8) tied by a Portsoy "290" Scottish numeral, backstamped by a blue, boxed "FORDYCE" Scots local cancellation (Type VIII) and a Portsoy transit datestamp for FE.10.1853. The second envelope bearing a 1d rose-red (SG 29) tied by a Portsoy "290" numeral, backstamped by a green, boxed "FORDYCE" Scots local cancellation (Type VIII) blue Portsoy and Banff transit/arrival cds's for MY.24-25.1859. (Portsoy transit with year slug error reading 9185). An attractive matched pair pre official usage of the Scots local cancellations and during the official usage period. Ex. "Claymore".
