1840 1d Mulready Envelope (Forme 4, Stereo A174). Very fine used example sent from London to Truro two days prior to the official first day of use. Prepaid in cash and Britannia left uncancelled the cover shows a red handstruck "1" and a red London Tombstone datestamp for MY.4.1840. Some minor soiling and toning nevertheless a great rarity with only three other envelopes recorded on this date. Ex. Yates, "Daisy" & "Mayflower" 1996 BPA Cert.
