EGYPT BRITISH FORCES 1882 Cover Egyptian postcard used with British Army Post Office cds

Stock Code: P201014707

The Arabi Rebellion. 1882 (SP 8) Egypt 20pa brown postcard, used from Kassassin to Colchester, with very fine 'BRITISH ARMY POST OFFICE / EGYPT' despatch cds (without code). Small faults at foot barely detract. A rare usage, the Egyptian postcard not specifically authorized for use but apparently accepted without surcharge nevertheless. The message includes, "Had a brief engagement yesterday about 2 miles from here. One officer of XIX Hussars was wounded but there were no other casualties. The next position which we shall have to take is about 6 miles from here and then there is another about 10 miles off at Tel el Kebir." Ex Firebrace (Cavendish 16 May 2001, lot 1111).
