CANADA 1875 SG63 Cover registered with Large Queen 5c franking

1875 (NO 6) registered cover from Leamington to Amherstburg, franked at 5c (3c postage + 2c registration) by 1868-90 Large Queen 5c olive-green, perf 11½x12, tied by fancy cork cancel, with despatch cds and 'REGISTERED' h/s at left. Carried by the Canadian Southern Railway with three strikes (one on face, two on reverse) of boxed 'REGISTERED / C.S.R.' h/s, and several backstamps inclg arrival cds (NO 8). Some edge soiling, nevertheless a remarkable and very rare cover. Ex Arfken. [N.B. The 5c Large Queen could only be used to prepay the combined postage and registration fee between 28 Sept 1875 (date of issue) and 30 Sept 1876. From 1 Oct 1876 it became compulsory to pay the registration fee by means of the 2c Registered Letter stamp issued on 15 Nov 1875. Of the 56 covers recorded in the Wayne Smith census with this franking, just 13 are recorded prior to the introduction of the Registered Letter stamps.]
