1864 (JA 27) cover from Toronto to USA, addressed in a flowing copperplate hand to 'Dr J.B. Hunter, Asst Surgeon 60th Ind. Vols, 1st Brigade - 4th Division, 13th Army Corps, New Orleans, La.', franked at 10c, being the ½oz single letter rate to the USA, by 1859 10c (pale) brownish purple 'Prince Consort', tied by grid cancel and 'TORONTO / C.W' despatch cds. A fine and attractive Civil War period cover. [N.B. New Orleans was captured by a Federal Naval Landing Party under Admiral Farragut in April 1862 and held by the Federals until the end of the war by a garrison commanded by the notoriously brutal and corrupt Gen. Butler.]
