1942 Landfall of Columbus, range of eight overprint essays on ½d (4), 1d (3) and 2d values in a variety of types, with those on the ½d (two different types) unissued, and those on the other values in the issued type including one 1d overprinted in RED, together affixed to four pieces of "The Nassau Guardian" printed stationery, forming a four page proposal for selection of the overprint type, with each page numbered ("25A", "25B", "25C", "25D") in red crayon and marked "Specimen 1" to "Specimen 4", the last endorsed (in red) in the hand of the Duke of Windsor "Approved Edward 1/X/42". A fascinating and remarkable group, unique in this form. Ex "Staircase" (Spink 8 April 1999, lot 478), and illustrated on page 241 of "Bahamas Stamps and Postal Stationery to 1970" (ed. Fernbank).
