1931 (6 JU) first flight cover from Lord Howe Island to Sydney, franked by 1929-30 Air 3d green and 1931 Kingsford Smith 2d rose-red, tied by 'LORD HOWE ISLAND / N.S.W.' despatch cds, with blue airmail etiquette at lower right. The face with three-line 'CARRIED BY AIR / FIRST FLIGHT TO / AUSTRALIA' cachet in violet at lower left, numbered '23' and signed by Francis Chichester. Minor toning still very neat and appealing. [N.B. It is believed that a maximum of 130 covers were prepared for this leg of Chichester's flight from New Zealand to Australia, with less than half believed to still exist.] (Eustis 184a, cat A$650)
