GB 1884 SG. Mint
1884 Before and After the Stamp Committee Presentation book. A magnificent presentation book created by D.L.R. comprising of three pages of stamps mounted in sunken frames, the first has a set of ½d-1s in use before 1883 (all line perforated imprimaturs produced especially for this book, including a 9d Pl.5 "Abnormal" & 1s Purple Pl.14.), the second had the stamps in use after April 1st 1884 (½d-1s "Lilac & Green" issue) and the third had the set to be issued from January 1st 1887 (½d-1s "Jubilee" issue). An exceptionally rare book of which only thirty six examples were produced, not all including the 1s purple. Most of these books have subsequently been broken up and of those that are still intact many have had the rare stamps replaced with more common examples. Accompanied by a small printed piece of paper initialed W.W.D.L.R. (Warren William De La Rue), for 110 Bunhill Row, E.C. and endorsed in manuscript "With the compliments of Messrs Tho De La Rue & Co
