Isle of Man blasts into space with Major Tim Peake

Accompanying Major Tim Peake on his six month mission on the International Space Station (ISS) are seven special covers produced by the Isle of Man Post Office.  The covers mark Major Peake’s journey as the first official British astronaut on the ISS and were signed by him on 12 January—the actual date of the 150th anniversary of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS), which has worked with the Isle of Man Post Office to organise this project. The signed covers will be returned to earth via supply rocket. One cover will be sent to the Isle of Man Post Office , while the other six will be sent to the RAeS, which will distribute them to aviation museums both in the United Kingdom and the USA.

The special cover depicts the eight stamps from the REeS 150th anniversary set which was released on 12 January 2016. The stamps show cutting-edge technology of the last 150 years from the first hydrogen balloon flight in 1784 to the developments of the Trent engine and the most recent mission to the space station.
