CAYMAN ISLANDS 1938 SG115 Essay Bi-colour Hand Painted Essays

Stock Code: P190007368

c.1938 pair of stamp-sized preliminary essays denominated 1½d, hand painted by Waterlow staff artist L. P. Fryer, the first showing central KGVI portrait flanked by trees, depicting a sunset over the beach executed in pale orange and black with details in Chinese white, the second a daytime scene in black, light blue and Chinese white, depicting a bi-colour version of the ‘Beach view’ design subsequently adopted for the ¼d red-orange. A fascinating and unique pair of essays, the mono-colour designs of the issued stamps sadly rendering Fryer’s sunrise/sunset proposals impossible.
