1898 Pictorial nine values to 5s, Waterlow printer's samples in the characteristic unissued colours, comprising ½d brown, 2½d grey on toned (inscr "WAKATIPU"), 5d blue-green, 9d purple-brown on toned, 2s orange-vermilion die-stamped opt 'WATERLOW & SONS LD" (Type WS3) in blue, and 1d black and green, 2d indigo, 4d green, 5s black opt "WATERLOW & SONS LTD. / SPECIMEN" (Type WS1, 5s abnormally at top of stamp), perf 12½ with security punch holes, affixed to Waterlow promotional piece (203x128mm) inscr in Spanish ("IMPRESION POR PLANCHA DIRECTA") for use in South America, each annotated with manuscript "S.T." (= "Sample Type" or "Specimen Type") number. A beautiful and rare survival, with only four sheets (in various forms) recorded.
