GB 1873 SG145 Pl.13 Cover
1873 Overseas Mail. Magnificent used entire sent from Leeds to Warsaw, Poland bearing a 6d Pale buff Pl.13 (Wmk. Spray) "abnormal" issue lettered LB, neatly tied by a Leeds "447" duplex for MR.15.1873. (First date of issue) also showing red "PD" & "FRANCO" handstamps alongside and a black arrival cds at foot for MR.6.1873. Backstamped by a London transit cds for MR.15.1873. Due to the annexation of Warsaw by the Russian Empire the use of the Julian Calendar was implimented whereas the Gregorian Calendar was being used by the rest of Europe, the difference between the two calendars was 12 days explaining why the arrival cds is nine days before the dispatch date once you allow for the three days in transit. A very attractive first date of issue example of this rare "Abnormal" on cover and without doubt one of the major rarities of GB Philately. Unique. Ex. "Maximus" & "Verus".
