England. Elizabeth I gold Pound struck 1594 – 1596.
Although this coin has seen a little wear, it is strongly struck so all the portrait and Royal Arms details are clear and a very spectacular and handsome coin of this well known English queen is achieved. Elizabeth's reign is famous above all for the flourishing of English drama, led by playwrights such as William Shakespeare and Charles Marlowe, and for the seafaring prowess of English adventurers such as Sir Francis Drake. Some historians are more reserved in their assessment. They depict Elizabeth as a short-tempered, sometimes indecisive ruler, who enjoyed more than her share of luck. Towards the end of her reign, a series of economic and military problems weakened her popularity.

Crowned bust left with long hair and ornate bodice, ELIZABETH D’G’ ANG’ FRA’ ET HI’ REGINA.

Crowned Royal Arms dividing initials 'ER', SCVTUM FIDEI PROTEGET EAM, The shield of faith shall protect her.
