England, Edward VI 'Fine' silver crown 1552

England, Edward VI 'Fine' silver crown 1552
Obv:
Crowned and fully armoured king, holding sword in right hand on fully caparisoned horse prancing right, EDWARD VI D' G' AGL' FRA' Z HIBER' REX'.

Rev:
Royal Arms on cross fourchee, POSVI DEVM ADIVTORE' MEVM', (I have made god my helper).

Some superficial wear, but well struck so all main features of king and horse are clearly discernible. This coin is particularly interesting in that it claims a first - it is the first series of English silver coins to bear the date in Arabic numerals ! The coin is rare and as a type was only issued for three years – 1551, 52 and 53.
