England Charles I gold Unite minted in 1625

England Charles I gold Unite minted in 1625
Obv. Crowned, draped bust left with ruff, denomination 'XX' to right, CAROLVS D' G' MAG' BR' FR' ET HI' REX'.

Rev. Crowned, garnished Royal Arms, 'FLORENT CONCORDIA REGNA', (Through concord kingdoms flourish).

Although this coin has seen some wear it provides a very clear and handsome portrait of Charles I. It is particularly interesting to note that he is wearing a ruff and not a lace collar as we normally think of him, as a 'cavalier'. At the beginning of his reign the fashion was still hanging on to vestiges of the Elizabethan era which would soon disappear.
