EGYPT 1875 Cover

EGYPT 1875 Cover
1875 (OC 18) Great Britain "ONE PENNY FARTHING" red-brown postcard, used to England with very fine "B01" numeral and equally fine ALEXANDRIA despatch cds. Reverse with Reigate arrival cds, dated "OC 25 75". Trivial edge blemishes, still choice quality and rare early usage from a British post office abroad. [N.B. The 1¼d postcard was introduced in July 1875 as a result of the 1874 Treaty of Berne, which stipulated that foreign postcards sent between members of the General Postal Union would be charged at half the basic letter rate (2½d in the case of Great Britain). The 1¼d rate lasted until 1879 when it was reduced to 1d.]
