Military General Service 1793-1814, four clasps, Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Toulouse (Josh. Gavan, 43rd Foot), minor edge knock otherwise nearly extremely fine.Joseph Gavan was born in the Parish of Clones, county Monaghan Ireland, and attested for the 43rd Foot on 16th November 1811, aged 17 years. He served two years in the Peninsula present at the battles of Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees & Tolouse and two years in St. John's Newfoundland with the Royal Newfoundland Veteran Companies. He was discharged on 9th Jan. 1833 declared unfit for service "worn out", his conduct described as "bad". Sold with copy discharge papers and research.
