1877 (6 Nov) (1c) on 6c ultramarine, horiz and vert bars, fine used for this with part cork cancel. Trivial wrinkles and a couple of short perfs but a really attractive example. Scarce thus.

1877 (23 Nov) (1c) on 4c blue and 6c brown 'OFFICIAL', each with two horiz bars and one vert, used with matching 'quatrefoil' cork cancels. Minor marks and second with small corner crease, still a useful pair of these scarce stamps. (cat £220)

1877 (23 Nov) (2c) on 8c rose 'OFFICIAL' (type 8), two horiz bars and one vert, lightly used with clear large part strike of segmented 'star' cork obliterator. Typical perfs and centring, and very minor creasing at SW corner but far above average. A very scarce stamp. (cat £325)

1888-89 'INLAND REVENUE' surcharges, set of 15 to $5, o.g. Some values with yellowish gum as often, and $1 with tiny perf blemishes, but overall far above average for this set, rarely offered as such. Only 1133 sold of $4 (inclg SG 188a), 1200 of $1, 1239 of $2. [N.B. $4 is line perf]. (cat £1800)

1913-27 series of ledger pieces from the Madagascar UPU archive, comprising 1913-21 wmk MCA, 1c, 2c, 6c, 60c, 72c, 96c (x2, the second on pale yellow) and 1921-27 Script wmk 1c, 2c bright violet and 4c to 96c, opt 'SPECIMEN', inhorizontal strips of 3 (except 1913-21 1c three singles) as received from Berne, tied by part to (occasionally) complete strikes of the red circular 'POSTES ET TELEGRAPHES/COLLECTION DE BERNE/MADAGASCAR' receiving handstamp. Also the 1918 2c 'War Tax' in a horizontal strip of 3 as issued (WITHOUT 'SPECIMEN') similarly tied, an item of particular interest as this was the only British Guiana consequently only those few with receiving handstamp as here can be identified. A unique and highly attractive assembly, with the 'missing' values believed no longer to exist. The 1921-27 24c strip shows the constant variety 'Broken M' (pos. 41) on the centre stamp, while the 2c violet strip is on large piece with the Director's audit endorsement and violet handstamp. The whole neatly written up on three exhibition pages.

Official. 1877 6c brown, type O2 opt, lightly cancelled by part cork obliterator which leaves ship largely clear. Insignificant wrinkles and a guarantee mark just shows through, still a really fine example. Very scarce. Ex William Frazer (Spink 30/10/2003), with clear RPS cert (1974). (cat £600)
