1901-05 4d black and sepia, THIN PAPER, wmk vertical with comb perforation, fine o.g. A very scarce stamp. Only 296 existed without opt (inclg a sheet in the DLR archive).

1901-05 6d black and myrtle-green, vertical wmk, with fine large part strike of 'KOKODA/B(RITISH NEW GUINE)A' cds, dated '7 AUG 06'. Minor perf toning but a rarity on this value. Lee type 68.

1906 (8 Nov) Vertical wmk 6d black and myrtle-green, type 3 (Port Moresby) opt, a very large example with abnormally wide margin at left (showing trace of adjoining stamp) which has a second row of blind perforations, fresh large part o.g. Unapparent diagonal crease but most unusual.

1906 (Nov) 1s black and orange, thick paper, wmk vertical, type 3 'Papua.' opt of Port Moresby, natly cancelled by large part '336' barred oval of THURSDAY ISLAND, applied in transit. A rare stamp, probably unique with this cancel. BPA cert (1989) as former SG 29a.

1907-10 'Small PAPUA' 2d, wmk upright perf 11, and 1910-11 'Large PAPUA' 1d, 2d (vertical pair) and 4d, each with fine unframed 'LOOSE/SHIP/LETTER' oval mark of Thursday Island (Lee type S2). Odd minor blemishes but a scarce group.

1911-15 ½d, 1d, 2d, each with very fine unframed 'LOOSE/SHIP/LETTER' oval mark of Thursday Island (Lee type S2). Also a fine part strike on the 6d value. Minor imperfections but an attractive group, the ½d and 6d very scarce.

1916-31 1d, Cooke printing, with very fine strike of the scarce 'NEPA' cds (Lee type 81) dated '3 AUG 17'. Trivial blemishes.

1916-31 1½d Mullett printing, with fine complete strike of the scarce 'HISIU' cds (Lee type 92) dated '21 JA 29'. Minor toning.

1932-40 set of 16 to £1, very fine o.g. (barest traces of hingeing). Lovely fresh colours. Scarce thus.

1939-41 'Air' set of 6 to 1s 6d, in vertical strips of 3 as distributed from the UPU in Bern, affixed to two pieces from the Mauritania post office archive and tied by strikes of the distinctive three-line 'SPECIMEN/COLLECTION/MAURITANIE' receiving H/S in magenta (applied during an audit of the collection in 1951). Couple of wrinkles but unique and highly attractive. Especially important as with the exception of the 1932 Lakatoi 9d and 1s 3d (SG 127s/8s) all Papuan stamps were distributed in normal unused condition, and 'SPECIMEN' examples can therefore only be recognised by receiving handstamps, where applied.

1891 (28 AU) Cover from Port Moresby to Brisbane, franked by Queensland 1890-94 2d pale blue (SG 189), tied by very fine large part strike of 'B.N.G' 8-bar obliterator, with very fine 'PORT MORESBY/BRITISH NEW GUINEA' despatch cds at left. COOKTOWN (SP 7) and BRISBANE (SE 16) backstamps. Minor marks, still fine and very scarce.
