1865 imperf 5c rose, photo-litho forgery by Sperati, lower left 'corner' example, 'used' with large part Sperati type 2 oval 'POST OFFI/PAID/A VANCOUVER' cancel in black. A superb example of the master forger's craft, with BPA H/S numbered '114' on reverse. Desirable thus. Ex Gawainne Baillie (realised £646 in Jan 2007).
1868-71 $1 green, perf 12½, attractively cancelled with part blue '(3)5' numeral of Victoria. Suspicion of toning mentioned for accuracy, still a fine example with good colour. Very scarce. Clear BPA cert (1981). (cat £1100)
1852-57 ½d deep rose on thin soft vertically ribbed paper, large margins, lightly cancelled by part target. BPA cert (2012) notes 'a little soiled', still a fine example of this rare printing. (cat £3000).
1870 (JA 11) cover from Halifax, N.S., to 'J.Hoyt, Coal Mines, via New Glasgow', franked at 3c by 1868-71 'large Queen' 1c orange-yellow, vertical strip of 3, tied by two strikes of 'HALIFAX-N.S./ H in bars' duplex. Minor soiling, the address a little smudged, and top stamp of strip with small faults, but a rare franking.
1868-90 ½c black 'large Queen', perf 11½x12, Montreal printing, left marginal block of 4, o.g. (three stamps unmounted). Minor traces of gum yellowing, still very fine. A scarce and attractive multiple. (cat £440+)
1868-90 'Large Queen' 15c, IMPERFORATE HORIZONTAL PAIR in the characteristic rich brown-purple colour, o.g. Left stamp with insignificant indentations and a tiny gum tone speck, but superb appearance. Only 200 pairs existed and rare so fine.
1908 Quebec set of 8 to 20c, in used blocks of 4. Some slight faults (two 15c with defects, one 20c with corner crease) and mostly with heavyish cancels (10c with barred ovals, 7c, 15c, 20c with 'R' in ovals), but a rare and remarkable assembly. (cat £1500+)
1922-31 'Admiral' 3c carmine, IMPERFORATE lower marginal block of 8 (4x2) with full imprint showing plate number '128' and type 'D' lathework, unmounted o.g. Lower right stamp with minor indentation but a scarce and lovely multiple. (Unitrade cat $750 for a hinged block).
1928-29 short set of 9 to 20c, imperforate horizontal or vertical (10c, 12c, 20c) plate proof pairs on thin laid paper with closely spaced lines (horizontal on 3c to 20c, vertical on 1c and 2c). Very fine, and not previously handled by us. Ex ABN archives.
1928-29 10c to $1, the five pictorial values, in matching vertical pairs, IMPERFORATE HORIZONTALLY, brilliant unmounted o.g. About 250 pairs of each value existed thus, only a small proportion of which now survive in this quality. A superb group.
1932-33 'Medallion' set of 6 to 8c in IMPERFORATE horizontal pairs from left of sheet, o.g. (8c from upper left corner with stamps unmounted). Odd minor wrinkles (the 1c to 3c with characteristic 'rotary gum') but a handsome set of very fine appearance. Only 150 pairs of each value existed.
1935 Silver Jubilee 1c green, 2c brown, 5c blue, the three small format values from the set of 6, imperforate plate proofs on India paper (affixed to card), in matching upper marginal blocks of 4, each from upper left plate, pos. 7-8/17-18 (positions in pencil on reverse). Two complete sheets (= 400 pairs) of each value existed, ex ABN archives (dispersed in 1990). Not previously handled by us, and most attractive, the 5c value in a particularly intense shade.
1935 set of 11 to $1, IMPERFORATE blocks of 4, (marginal except 1c-3c, 8c and 10c), brilliant unmounted o.g. Odd minor wrinkle, still very fine. Only 150 sets in pairs existed and now rare in blocks, especially unmounted.
