GB250 Rarities Index

Investment Indices

The ability to track long-term historic prices is invaluable to any investor. That is why we launched our indices. They are such a useful investing tool that Bloomberg started listing them on their Bloomberg Professional service at the start of 2008.

GB250 Rarities Index

Launched in early 2012 the GB250 Index as quoted on Bloomberg Professional® (STGIGB25) tracks the value of some of the premium rare stamps Stanley Gibbons offers to investors with prices backdated to 2002. The aim of the GB250 Index is to provide a broad view of the investment market for Great Britain stamps.

For the purpose of this index, every stamp with a value of more than £10,000 according to the 2011 edition of Great Britain Concise has been included. As a rule, these are the stamps that we would recommend to you for investment purposes and they include watermark varieties, specimens, errors and Government Officials.

The average rare stamp portfolio held with Stanley Gibbons is almost £50,000, so the stamps tracked in the GB250 Index are likely to feature in the portfolios of past, present and future investors.

Showing similar strength to the GB30 Rarities Index, the GB250 Index has shown an average compound return of 13.18% over 10 years.

And if you’re concerned about how rare stamps may perform during an economic crisis, the GB250 Index showed an increase of 89.19% over the last 6 years as the global markets crashed.
