1882 ½d on 3d wmk CA, type 12 surcharge, three used examples exhibiting a range of shades from pale to deep claret, and each with an interesting variety. The first with surcharge misplaced upwards (leaving the original value clear) and showing a prominent printing flaw in the value tablet (between 'POSTAGE' and 'THREE'), the second (from left column with imcomplete bar) showing badly broken 'l' in 'Half', the third with surcharge misplaced downwards, so that the bar falls on both the top and bottom perfs. Small faults (first with a slight thin, last with perf defects) but a good group.

Both without external margins, and odd minor imperfections (one stamp in the second block with an ink spot), but unique and fascinating multiples, in remarkably fine condition. 1892 (Oct) 2½d on 3d ultramarine, type 8 surcharge, the complete sheet of 240 (separated into four panes of 60, each 6x10) formerly in the collection of Mr. J. Schoeman, whcih demonstrated that the first setting was indeed of 240, rather than 120 as believed by Buckley and Marriott in the 1966 Handbook. Overall good to fine condition, with fresh colour and part o.g. to o.g., but with some creases, separation and missing pieces of selvedge, and with one block of four missing (but replaced) from the lower right pane. The major variety 'Printer's quad after surcharge' (= SG 61a) and a host of constant smaller varieties are present, all written up on four exhibition pages. A unique and fascinating assembly for the specialist (cat £4626+).

(most stamps unmounted). The surcharge misplaced downwards, so that the TOP ROW IS WITHOUT BAR, while all other rows show BAR AT TOP (with additional bar in margin below row 10). Some creases, and minor soiling at upper right, but overall fine and fresh. Very rare and remarkable as a double pane with misplaced surcharge, with even single examples of R3/1 (SG 79) and R10/6 (SG 78) being rare in this form. Neatly presented on exhibition page.
