1854 (6 Oct) cover from Samulcottah to Secunderabad, endorsed 'Paid', franked by 1854-55 ½a blue, die I, good margins and showing worn impression with a clear retouch to the first arch left, tied by diamond of dots in brown. Faint strike of red 'SAMULCOTA/Paid' boxed despatch H/S (Hammond Giles type 2) on reverse, with office name 'Samulcottah' and date '6 October 1854' in M/S. Legible Secunderabad boxed red arrival ds on face (but date unclear). The cover with light vertical bend and just a little toned, still fine and very neat. An exceptionally early usage, in the first week of issue, and desirable thus.

On reverse red boxed despatch and arrival ds, the former with office name unclear but '9-10-54' in M/S. A little toned, still a neat and desirable early usage. Ex Dawson.
1856 (March) large part native wrapper from Madura franked by 1854 ½a blue, die I, pos. A28, touched to large margins, tied by fine type 6 'C-139' numeral, with legible red despatch ds alongside. Good condition.

1855 (10 Sep) small native cover from Calicut to Madras, franked by 1854 ½a blue, die I, pos. A26, close to good margins, tied by light diamond of dots, with red boxed arrival marks alongside. 1854 (17 Oct) small native cover (made from a bank receipt, with printed English text !) from Calicut to Cochin, franked by 1854 ½a blue, die I, pos. A41, close to large margins, tied by light diamond of dots. Legible red despatch and arrival ds (each with M/S date), on reverse. Cover creasing, but the stamp fine and very fresh. An appealing early usage from the first month of issue. Scarce thus.

1855 (28 Jan) outer wrapper with bilingual address from Kamptee to Jaulnah, franked by 1854 ½a deep blue (towards indigo), die I, good margins, tied by crisp diamond of dots. On reverse fine despatch cds (affected by flap tear) and boxed arrival ds, in shades of red. Neat annotations on face, still a fine cover, the stamp of exceptional intense colour.
1855 (21 May) small native cover from Bangalore to Madras, franked by 1854 ½a deep blue (towards indigo), die I, pos. A55, good to large margins, indistinctly cancelled. Good range of backstamps, with red boxed despatch (M/S date) and arrival ds, boxed 'AM' in black, and 'Rg House/No. 2' in blue. The stamp shows distinct trace of a 'double print' (or doubled transfer ?) and most unusual thus.
