1854 (6 Oct) cover from Samulcottah to Secunderabad, endorsed 'Paid', franked by 1854-55 ½a blue, die I, good margins and showing worn impression with a clear retouch to the first arch left, tied by diamond of dots in brown. Faint strike of red 'SAMULCOTA/Paid' boxed despatch H/S (Hammond Giles type 2) on reverse, with office name 'Samulcottah' and date '6 October 1854' in M/S. Legible Secunderabad boxed red arrival ds on face (but date unclear). The cover with light vertical bend and just a little toned, still fine and very neat. An exceptionally early usage, in the first week of issue, and desirable thus.

On reverse red boxed despatch and arrival ds, the former with office name unclear but '9-10-54' in M/S. A little toned, still a neat and desirable early usage. Ex Dawson.

Good range of backstamps, with red boxed despatch (M/S date) and arrival ds, boxed 'AM' in black, and 'Rg House/No. 2' in blue. The stamp shows distinct trace of a 'double print' (or doubled transfer ?) and most unusual thus.
