Fraser's Top 30 Selling Autographs Index Update 7 of 7 - August 2009
“My Top Picks” from the Chief Executive – Number 7 of 7
A Genius Investment Idea
I’d never seen a signed portrait of Einstein before…Until now.
The final “Secret 7” top pick appears at “Number 20” in our “Top 30 Sellers” index. And, I left the best to last.
The name “Einstein” is synonymous with intelligence and brilliance. You might not know what E=mc2 is all about, but I bet you’ve heard of it.
Albert Einstein’s brilliance has made him one of the most popular icons in memorabilia today. He is a cult idol…
People come from all over the world to visit his adopted hometown, Princeton in New Jersey. Apparently, his brain still resides there although you can’t go see it.
He made America his home after escaping Nazi Germany in 1933 and lived there until he died aged 76, in 1955.
There are claims he was dyslexic although they did not have the testing in those days to prove that. He was definitely a rubbish speller; we see that in many of the signed letters we deal with. Whether he was dyslexic or not, we’ll never know.
My youngest daughter is dyslexic so I like to think that perhaps he was. I can live in hope that the pain she goes through at school will end and that one day she might excel at something she has an aptitude for.

As I said, I’ve never seen a signed portrait of Einstein before. We sell many signed letters and photographs of Einstein. That is why he is one of our top sellers. He has a constant appeal and is a hugely important and widely recognised figure of history. Time will not erode his importance or recognition for his place in history. That’s what makes this such an intelligent investment.
In 1997, Einstein signed documents sold for £1,700. Today, the average selling price is £6,000. That’s an increase in value of 253% in 12 years (or 21% per annum).
Why would you leave your money festering in a low interest bearing bank account when you could own an item of such aesthetic appeal which will rise in value every year?
The signed portrait I offer today though is far superior to a normal signed document. This is special.

PS. I seem to recall a famous Einstein quote, something along the lines of: “If I give you a pound, you will be a pound richer but I would be a pound poorer. If I give you a good idea, you get to make money out of that idea, but I still have the idea.” The idea is what I give you today; the rest is up to you…
