Investment Indices

The ability to track long-term historic prices is invaluable to any investor. That is why we launched the following indices. They are such a useful investing tool that Bloomberg started listing them on their Bloomberg Professional service at the start of 2008. Here are the indices available:

SG 100 Stamp Index

The SG100 index has been designed to provide the definitive measure of overall market performance and helps to measure individual price increases. We believe that the index highlights the real prices being achieved, especially among the classic Great Britain and Commonwealth stamps.

The index is based on retail and auction prices for the top 100 most frequently traded stamps in the world. It includes items from all major collecting areas, such as Great Britain, Commonwealth and many foreign countries.

Since it was launched in 2000, the index has recorded a cumulative increase of over 90%.

GB30 Rarities Index

Launched in 2004 and backdated to 1998, the GB30 Raritites Index is a collection of classic GB stamps that we would recommend for investment.

The index increased by 38.6% in 2008, while the global economy crumbled. The best performing stamp increased by 93.5% and the worst performer in the index still went up by 8.6%.

And remember, that’s amidst a global credit crunch and a backdrop of world economic gloom.

Commonwealth Rarities Index

Launched in 2004 and backdated to 1998, the Commonwealth Raritites Index is the same as the GB Index, but records prices of 30 classic Commonwealth stamps that we would recommend for investment.

The index recorded a compound increase of 158% in the last 12 years, with the best performing stamp increasing by 355% in that time.

Fraser's Rarities Index

This index is taken from analysis of the top 100 most sought-after autographs and their retail price in 1997 compared to today's market value. The investment index gives an average of the percentage growth in value over the period for specific items, with personalities from the worlds of sport, film, music and other key historical figures.
