MONROE, MARILYN -- Film, TV & Theatre
A typed letter on a single side of a sheet of off-white paper (approx. 8.5x11 in); dated April 14th, 1958. The piece reads 'Gentlemen: I refer you to a letter which I wrote to the Board of Directors of your corporation on August 9, 1957, in which I advised you that in view of the corporation's failure to pay my salary under the purported employment contract of January 27, 1956, the corporation had no right to enforce said contract against me, and that I considered myself free to seek employment elsewhere. Since the date of that letter, as of February 26, 1958, you have entered into an agreement with Milton H. Greene, whereby Mr. Greene's employment by the corporation has been terminated. I call your attention to paragraph sixth-B of the purported employment agreement of January 27, 1956. I hereby give you the notice provided for in that paragraph Sixth-B and that, accordingly, my employment will terminate thirty (30) days from the date hereof. I herewith make claim for all of the salary due to me pursuant to paragraph Fourth-A of the aforementioned agreement of January 27, 1956. Very truly yours, Marilyn Monroe'. The piece is signed by Monroe in blue ball-point pen ink. In good condition with light edge toning to the right portion of the piece and a notation in black pen ink to the top right corner "Exhibit A".
