A press release issued by the Public Relations Officer for the Association of British Philatelic Societies (ABPS), John Davies, states that a new Secretary has taken over from Colin Searle:

Willie King, one of Scotland’s leading philatelists, has taken over the role of Secretary of The Association of British Philatelic Societies (ABPS).

He replaces Colin Searle who stood down to concentrate on the organisation of Congress and completion of the new Handbook.

Willie started collecting stamps in 1947 and has been an active member of a very diverse range of specialist, local and national societies. This has given him a strong background in the organisation of philately, so he is well placed to undertake his new role.

Willie is best known for an award-winning collection of Saudi Arabia (Hejaz) but also collects Ceylon, Sudan , USA and Scottish Postal History. He is now co-writing a book on the postal history of Ayrshire.

Commenting on his new role, Willie said “One of my main aims is to strengthen the links between ABPS and its member societies. ABPS plays a leading role in the organisation of many activities and events for collectors across the UK. We need to make sure that our members fully appreciate just how much work the ABPS actually does.”
